My Life Philosophy that Influences All of My Work
I believe that we all come into this world full of potential and possibility. We are here to live lives that are meaningful, balanced, healthy and whole. We are here to deepen our capacity to experience love, joy, peace and connection with all of life. On our life journey, we all encounter challenges. Sometimes these challenges can be very painful and can shake us to our core. All of us have events happen in our lives that hurt and that cause us pain.
It is in learning to embrace the hurt and the pain while continuing to choose what is life giving that we grow into more compassionate and loving human beings who have the capacity to experience empathy for all of life including our own. I believe in the power of relational connection in facilitating healing growth and spiritual well-being.
I believe that all of us, no matter what our personal history or story, has the capacity to connect with our original wholeness and live lives of love, joy, peace, meaning and purpose.
The great Sufi mystic and poet Rumi wrote:
You were born with potential
You were born with goodness and truth
You were born with ideals and dreams
You were born with greatness
You were born with wings
You were not meant for crawling so don't
You were born with wings
Learn to use them and fly
In all of my work, I welcome and affirm differences in race, ethnicity, religion, gender and sexual orientation. I draw on a wide variety of clinical and theoretical perspectives. I value an integrated approach to working with people. This approach endeavors to integrate the spiritual, emotional, mental and physical aspects of what it means to be a human being living in the 21st century.
As an Imago Relationship Therapist, I integrate Harville Hendix's model of Imago Relationship Therapy with other modalities that are successful in helping people feel safe, whole, connected and joyous in their primary relationships as well as in other important relationships in their lives. I believe that as we strive to connect well in our relationships, we ourselves become more loving and whole and have more energy and passion for creating a safe life affirming world for all of us.
